Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Welcome to Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills. Our driver guide will pick you up from Kigali Airport, give you a safari briefing, and then start the journey to Volcanoes National Park.
This park is home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. You will arrive in the evening while enjoying views of the hills. Check in to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwacu cultural tour
Start the day with breakfast and drive to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking. You will learn the rules and get information about the gorillas before starting the trek.
The trek takes between 4 to 8 hours depending on where the gorilla family is located. Once you find them, you will spend one hour watching their behavior, taking photos, and making videos.
After lunch, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about the local culture. Enjoy music, dance, storytelling, traditional food, and dressing. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Visit the twin lakes (Ruhondo and Burera), canoeing, and fly to Nairobi
After breakfast, go for a canoe ride on the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, located at the foothills of Mount Muhabura and Mount Sabyinyo. Explore bird-life, meet local fishermen, and learn about the history of the lakes.
Later, drive to Kigali and take a flight to Nairobi, Kenya. On arrival, meet your driver guide who will transfer you to the hotel for the night.
Day 4: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve and game drive
After breakfast, drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the best wildlife parks in Kenya. Stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for photos.
Arrive in the afternoon and go for an evening game drive to spot animals like lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, zebras, and others. Enjoy sunset views on the savannah. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Full-day game drive in Masai Mara
Spend the whole day exploring the Masai Mara plains on a game drive. Look for the wildebeest migration and other animals like elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles, elands, topis, impalas, rhinos, and more.
Have a picnic lunch near River Mara, where you may see animals coming to drink water. Visit different kopjes and viewpoints for more photos and memories. Return to the lodge in the evening.
Day 6: Head to Nairobi for a departure flight
Depending on your flight schedule, you may take a short game drive before driving back to Nairobi. You can also visit some attractions in the city, like museums, religious sites, or local markets.
Later, be dropped at the airport for your flight back home, marking the end of your 6 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Masai Mara Safari.
