15-Day Uganda, Rwanda & Tanzania Safari: Primates & Migration Adventure

The 15 Days Primates & Wildebeest Migration Safari offers a complete primate and wildlife experience in key East African destinations: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

This safari includes chimpanzee, golden monkey, and mountain gorilla trekking, along with game drives to see the Big Five and enjoy the wildebeest migration.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel

Arrive early at Entebbe International Airport. Meet your driver-guide and transfer to your pre-booked hotel in Kampala.

Day 2: Kampala to Kibale National Park via Fort Portal city

Drive from Kampala to Kibale National Park in Western Uganda. The trip takes about 6 hours along the Mityana-Fort Portal road. Enjoy views of tea plantations and crater lakes.

Stop in Fort Portal to see the Rwenzori Mountain ranges before continuing to your lodge near Kibale Forest.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi wetland/community tour

Report to Kanyanchu for briefing and guide allocation. At 8:00 am, start tracking chimpanzees with a group of guests and an experienced guide. The trek takes 2 to 4 hours.

Along the way, you may see olive baboons, colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and many forest birds. Spend one hour with the chimpanzees to take photos and enjoy the moment.

Return to the briefing point or your lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, take a guided walk in Bigodi Wetland.

A local guide will show you primates and bird species that live there.

Day 4: Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth National Park with boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Check in to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel.

You will see hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds.

Day 5: Game drive in Kasenyi Plains, Ishasha sector, and transfer to Bwindi National Park

Start with an early morning game drive in Kasenyi Plains to see elephants, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, antelopes, leopards, and birds. After 2 to 3 hours, check out of the lodge and head to Ishasha sector for the chance to see tree-climbing lions and topis. Then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Batwa cultural experience

Wake early and have tea or coffee before briefing at Bwindi Park offices. From 8:00 am, track gorillas with park guides. The trek can last from 2 to 6 hours.

When you find the gorilla group, you will spend one hour close to them, taking photos and enjoying the experience.

In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community for a cultural tour or relax at your lodge.

Day 7: Bwindi to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze

Leave Bwindi and travel to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze district. This area is home to 30% of the world’s mountain gorillas and other primates like golden monkeys.

You will cross the border via Katuna or Chanika.

Day 8: Second gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, go to Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking. Trek with a guide in Volcanoes National Park, home to 12 habituated gorilla groups.

You will have one hour with the gorillas for close viewing and photos. In the afternoon, visit Iby’Iwacu cultural village to learn about Rwanda’s traditions.

Day 9: Golden monkey tracking and travel to Kigali, then fly to northern Tanzania

Arrive early at Kinigi for briefing on golden monkey tracking. Track golden monkeys with a park ranger for 2 to 4 hours, including one hour for photos and observation.

After tracking, travel to Kigali and catch a flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. From there, transfer to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 10: Transfer from Arusha to Serengeti National Park

Drive from Arusha to Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. Enjoy an afternoon game drive or relax at your lodge.

Day 11: Game drive and wildebeest migration safari in Serengeti

After breakfast, take a full day game drive in a 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced guide. See the Big Five and, if in season, watch the wildebeest migration.

Day 12: From Serengeti, cross to Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya

After breakfast, drive to Maasai Mara Reserve. Arrive early, relax, and enjoy dinner. Stay overnight at your camp or lodge.

Day 13-14: Full days in Maasai Mara Reserve

Spend two full days exploring Maasai Mara with game drives. Watch the wildebeest migration. On the second day, you can visit a Maasai community or take a hot air balloon ride.

Day 15: Drive to Nairobi and end of safari

Drive from Maasai Mara to Nairobi. Depending on your schedule, transfer to your hotel or the airport. This marks the end of your 15-day Uganda, Rwanda, primates, and wildebeest migration safari.
