Mount Kenya Hiking Safari can be done through different routes. This time, we will use the Chogoria route. It is the most beautiful way to climb to the summit of Mount Kenya.
We chose this route because it offers great views of the surroundings and the driest trails.
You will enjoy this adventure as you test your fitness and explore different landscapes and plants, such as montane forests and bamboo forests.

- Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Mount Kenya starting point – hike to Mount Kenya bandas (2900m)

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Mount Kenya starting point – hike to Mount Kenya bandas (2900m)
At a set point in Nairobi, your driver guide will pick you up and take you to the start of the Mount Kenya hike.
On the way, you will pass agricultural fields and enjoy the changing views, perfect for photos and memories.
At the park, meet the trekkers and guides who will give you a briefing about this exciting hike.
Start your trek through the bamboo forest up to the Mount Kenya bandas where you will spend the night. You will cover about 10 kilometers on this day.
Day 2: Mount Kenya bandas to Lake Ellis Campsite (3600m)
Enjoy breakfast on the mountain, then hike further to Lake Ellis, which is 3600 meters above sea level. Porters will help carry your extra luggage.
The pace will be slow and steady, so you can enjoy the beautiful views.
Have lunch by the river. Along the way, you will see places like Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giant’s Billiards Table. Spend the night at Lake Ellis.
Day 3: Lake Ellis to Minto’s camp (4200m)
After breakfast, hike to Minto’s camp. Enjoy views of the Ithanguni gorge valleys and the northern moorland. Lunch will be served at a spot you choose, possibly by a stream, making special memories.
Day 4: Minto’s camp to Point Lenana (4985m), descend to Liki North camp
Today is the day to reach the summit. You will wake up early around 3:00 a.m. to start the hike with headlamps, carrying enough water and snacks.
It will take about 3 hours to reach Point Lenana, the summit at 4985 meters.
Here you will have the chance to watch a beautiful sunrise. After photos, descend to Shipton camp for breakfast. Then continue descending to Liki North camp.
The trail offers great views of the moorland.
Day 5: Liki North camp to Old Moses camp, drive to Nairobi
Descend to Old Moses camp, a walk of about 3 hours. Meet your driver guide who will take you back to Nairobi. Catch your flight home.
This marks the end of your 5-day Mount Kenya hike.
