Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Marangu Gate from Moshi and hike to Mandara Hut
You will be picked up from Moshi town early in the morning and transferred to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park for your hiking safari.
At Marangu Gate, you will meet other hikers for a briefing and registration.
Gather any materials you need for the hike and then start your adventure. You will walk through montane forest, where you may see primates like vervet monkeys and colobus monkeys, and many bird species.
You will spend the night at Mandara Hut after dinner.
Day 2: Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, hike through the forest to the moorland area. Along the way, you will see the Maudi Crater and, if the weather is clear, get a good view of Kibo Peak.
You will also see unique plants such as giant lobelias. The hike takes about 7 to 8 hours but is very rewarding.
You will stay overnight at Horombo Hut, which is 3,720 meters above sea level.
Day 3: Hike around Mawenzi Ridge/Zebra Rock
Spend this day resting at Horombo Hut. Take a short walk around Zebra Rock to prepare for the long hike to the summit.
Hiking the Mawenzi Ridge is an experience you will not regret.
Day 4: Hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Start your ascent toward the summit. You will hike about 10 km to reach Kibo Hut. There is a watering point on the way, so fill your bottles there as it is the last chance before the summit.
Bottled water is available at Kibo Hut but costs extra. You will arrive in the afternoon, have an early dinner, and be in bed by 7:00 pm.
Day 5: Hike to the summit (Uhuru Peak) and descend to Horombo Hut
Wake up around midnight and begin the hike to the summit using headlamps, ropes, walking sticks, and carrying enough water and snacks.
When you reach the summit (Gilman’s Point/Uhuru Peak) at 5895 meters, rest, take photos, and enjoy snacks.
If you arrive early, you will see a beautiful sunrise. After the summit, descend to Kibo Hut for lunch, then continue descending to Horombo Hut for the night.
Day 6: Descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, then return to Moshi
Continue your descent to Marangu Gate, where you will sign out and receive your hiking certificate. Meet your driver who will take you back to Moshi town.
This marks the end of your 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari.
